Busyballers was started 10 years ago by Arlette Truniger, a graduate in Sports Management from Damelin College. Arlette’s love for sport and children lead to the start of Busyballers where she devised a physical developmental coaching programme using her previous coaching, hands on experience and training. Her focus was the physical and social well being of the children. Her first class was held on the soccer fields at the Berea Park with 5 children. There are now over 250 children who attend Busyballers as an extra mural activity! This growth is a revelation of what a wonderful concept Busyballers is and how it enriches the lives of our little ones.
1 July 2009
10 years down the line, Arlette together with her husband Ian, decided that it was time for Busyballers to have some new blood and direction and subsequently new ownership and so I am excited to let you know that from the 1 July 2009 I became the new owner of Busyballers.
As the new owner of Busyballers I am sure that you would like to know more about me, my experience with children, with sport and with business in general! I matriculated from St Mary’s DSG in Kloof in 1999 and went on to study a BCOM in Marketing and Management at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. I have a great passion for sport and whilst at school I took part in both indoor and outdoor hockey, tennis, swimming and athletics. I also played hockey for various KZN Teams during my school years. Whilst at varsity I played hockey for Rovers and for the University of KZN.
It was at the Rovers Hockey Club where I first met Arlette and where I was first introduced to the wonderful concept of Busyballers! Busyballers had just started out and I generally helped Arlette with the Holiday Clinics and the odd bit of coaching! As far as my experience in childcare goes, I have been an Au Pair for families both locally and abroad where I have looked after babies from the age of 3 months to teenagers of 15 years old. After returning from my international travels I worked for Fulton School for the Deaf to assist the school while they looked for a permanent teacher. Here I taught the following subjects: Computer Practice (MS Office Suite) (Grade 10-12), Economic Management (Grade 8) and Mathematics (Grade 10).
This was both a challenging and rewarding experience. Over the past 4 years I have been working in the Advertising Industry as an Account Manager. I have been privileged to work with so many amazing people and am certain that all this business experience will stand me in good stead with the running of Busyballers. And so with my love for children, passion for sports and desire to run my own business, I expressed my interest in Busyballers to Arlette a few years ago.
I am now so excited that my dreams are finally coming true! I fully intend to maintain, as a core value of the business, the personal contact with the children, their parents and schools. This, along with the professional and high standards of coaching, has been key to the success of Busyballers and will remain my core focus as the new owner.
I am privileged that Arlette has entrusted me to take over Busyballers which I know has been so close to her heart and I look forward to the challenge of taking the business into the next era.
